The department of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry at SETCPD ensures to provide quality education to its students by imparting in depth knowledge for easy understanding of principles involved in Herbal Drug Science along with practical skills by training them on various techniques of standardization of crude drugs and their formulations. It also explores the chemistry of secondary metabolites from natural origin and their biological/pharmacological properties. The department has highly qualified staff members including two professors, one associate professor and five assistant professors. All the staff members are actively involved in research on various fields of natural products and published articles in national and international peer reviewed journals. The department has been sanctioned with research projects from various funding agencies. The department has successfully conducted national level seminars/conference on natural products.

FACILITIES IN THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Pharmacognosy has state-of-the-art facilities to meet the requirements for advanced research on herbal drugs/products. Undergraduate pharmacognosy labs are equipped with instruments like microtome, compound microscope, Trinocular microscope, Soxhlet apparatus, Clavenger’s apparatus, Muffle furnace Postgraduate pharmacognosy labs are equipped with sophisticated instruments like UV-Visible spectrophotometer, HPLC, Microwave oven, Ultrasonic extractor, PCR, Cooling centrifuge, Microcentrifuge, Orbital shaking incubator, Rotary flash evaporator etc. In addition, the department has established an herbal drug museum unveiling more than 150 crude drugs. Medicinal plant garden containing herbs, creepers, climbers, shrubs, trees. Is provided in the campus. The department is also supported by computers for each faculty with a high-band internet facility.
